ACQUISITION: This addition to the Vilhjalmur Stefansson Papers was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Robert Nuessle, Bismarck, North Dakota on January 15, 1981 (Acc.#81-725).

ACCESS: Available for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This addition to the Vilhjalmur Stefansson Papers consists of correspondence from Stefansson to William Nuessle, dated 1956. Nuessle and Stefansson were former classmates at UND. In 1956, Nuessle was a member of the Supreme Court of North Dakota. Stefansson wrote to Nuessle to congratulate him on winning an award from the UND Alumni Association. Nuessle responded

with a letter reflecting on their days at the University, and for helping Nuessle's son, Bill, adjust to life in New York. The final letter is from Stefansson to Nuessle, in which Stefansson playfully chides Nuessle for the fact that there were more Irish than Icelanders on the North Dakota Supreme Court.
