INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: This addition to the Joseph Bell DeRemer Papers was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Lee Furman, Grand Forks, North Dakota, on June 6, 2000 (Acc.#2000-2442).

ACCESS: Open for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This addition to the Joseph Bell DeRemer Papers consists of biographical material on DeRemer, correspondence, newspaper clippings, architectural sketches and drawings, schedules and specifications, and grant applications for DeRemer's projects. Also included are articles on DeRemer's building designs, pamphlets on help in architectural work, DeRemer's book plate, glasses, and tophat, and a scrapbook which contains mostly newspaper clippings about DeRemer and his work. There are also materials related to Lizzie DeRemer, Joseph DeRemer's wife, including newspaper clippings, her autograph book, and her black beaded blouse and skirt. Architectural sketches and drawings by Samuel T. DeRemer, the DeRemers' son, are also included. The material was arranged with Joseph Bell DeRemer's materials first, followed by Lizzie DeRemer material, and concluded with material related to Samuel T. DeRemer.

Nine oversize folders are included in this addition. Four oversize folders consist of drafts by Joseph Bell DeRemer, as well as his drawings and blue prints. Four oversize folders contain material by Samuel T. DeRemer, including his drafts, colored drawings, and black and white drawings. Also included is one folder of unidentified drafts and drawings by both Joseph and Samuel DeRemer.

Two books were separated and added to the North Dakota Book Collection:

Josiah Allen's Wife. Samantha at the World's Fair. New York: Funk & Wagnalls, 1893.
This title was given by DeRemer to his wife, Lizzie.

Palmer, Bertha Rachael. Beauty Spots in North Dakota. Boston: Richard Badger, 1928.
DeRemer's personal copy, which was signed by the author.

Seven bound periodical volumes were separated and added to the North Dakota Book Collection.
Each of the volumes was from Joseph DeRemer's personal library:
