ACQUISITION: The Dr. Min Hin Li Papers were deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection in 1981 (Acc. #81-853). The collection was originally part of the UND Biographical File. Additions to the collection were received from former UND President George Starcher in August 1984 (Acc. #84-1320), and from Mary Margaret Frank, Grand Forks, North Dakota, July 21, 2003 (Acc. #2004-2686).

Dr. Min Hin Li graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1920 and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1923. From 1924 to 1971, Dr. Li practiced medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was a prominent citizen within the community. He aided the President of Korea in his efforts for Korean independence and was the first person to organize an American Legion post for Chinese Veterans of World War I. Dr. Li was named a distinguished honorary citizen of North Dakota by North Dakota Governor C. Norman Brunsdale in 1957 and the following year received an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from the University of North Dakota. Dr. Li contributed to the communities of Grand Forks and Honolulu throughout his life until his death May 18, 1973, at Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu.
The Dr. Min Hin Li Papers consists of newspaper clippings, obituaries and correspondence dated 1951 to 1983. The newspaper clippings and obituaries contain information relating to the passing of Dr. Li, as well as his parents and wife. There is also a folder of correspondence between Dr. Li and Dr. and Mrs. George W. Starcher. Also included is correspondence to and from Li Ling Ai, Dr. Li's sister, to Mary Margaret (French) Frank. Documents within the correspondence folder are arranged chronologically.
