This addition to the Sister Ellen Murphy Papers dates from 1967 to 1996 and is divided into two series: Personal and Bachelor's Grove.
Series I: Personal
This series contains Sister Ellen's baptismal certificate, a certified copy of
her birth certificate, and a paper copy of her driver's license. There is also
a section on journals and planners that contain diaries from 1978-1995. These
journals discuss her activities of the day, who she has written to or has
received correspondence from, and the weather. There is also an extra diary
from 1979, which includes pictures and postcards of sites during her sabbatical
in Europe, as well as pictures of Mary and Charles McNeill.
Also contained is Sister Ellen's poetry and short stories, including a poetry
book from 1940- 1958, The Calling of Sister Roberta. Professional
materials are also found, including correspondence about her sabbatical as well
as photo albums from her trips to Europe and her visit to the University of
Notre Dame, in South Bend, Indiana. There is also a brochure for a pre-
kindergarten licensure program for the College of Saint Catherine that Sister
Ellen created and administered until her retirement in June 1984.
The majority of this series is correspondence which dates from 1969-1996. There
are letters from Father Robert Mullins, fellow Sisters, and Sister Ellen's
nieces and nephews. Correspondence from close friends such as Monsignor
McNamee, Mary and Charlie McNeill, William O'Connell, and Jim O'Leary is also
included.
A small miscellaneous section contains obituaries from Sister Ellen's deceased
neighbors, friends, and fellow Sisters. There is a speech that Sister Ellen
gave during Saint Stephen's Church, Larimore, North Dakota, Centennial
celebration, and mementos from past students and neighbors. Box 9, Folder
1-Box 11, Folder 25.
Series II: Bachelor's Grove
This series contains documents pertaining to Bachelor's Grove, a book
written by Sister Ellen Murphy. The book regarded the families that lived near
Bachelor's Grove, which was located between Larimore and Niagara in Brenna
Township, Grand Forks County. The Murphy's were one such family. There is also
a short history of Orr, North Dakota, as well as maps from North Dakota,
Ireland, and Canada. Sketches from School District #102, as well as Murphy
Family History information are included. Lastly, there are newspaper clippings
with information about the Murphy family, their neighbors, poems by Lawrence
Thomas Kennedy, and articles that were used to get information for
Bachelor's Grove. Box 11, Folder 26-Box 11, Folder 55.

One audio tape was separated and added to the Audio Tape Collection. The audio tape is an interview with Kathleen Donohue and was conducted by Sister Ellen Murphy. It took place on June 25, 1990. The tape was given number 2058.
