ACQUISITION: This addition to the Frances Kannowski Papers was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Rose Raymond, Grand Forks, North Dakota on May 5, 2006 (Acc. #2006-2828).

ACCESS: Open for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This addition to the Frances Kannowski Papers includes correspondence between Madelyn Bates and Rose Raymond, a diary of Kannowski's trip around the world, and a newspaper article regarding Kannowski's 104th birthday. Bates and Kannowski took a trip around the world in September and November 1959. Diaries were kept by both women, but as the trip continued, Bates wrote less and less. When the trip was over, Bates copied Kannowski's diary in long-hand and when Kannowski's diary was destroyed in the 1997 flood in Grand Forks, Bates typed the diary up and sent it to Kannowski. The correspondence between Bates and Raymond discusses parts of Bates and Kannowski's trip.

Nine photographs were deposited in the Orin G. Libby Photograph Collection. These pictures deal with her 103rd, 104th, 106th birthdays.
