SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This addition to the 1997 Red River Valley Flood Collection dates from
1997-2004, and consists of publications, government documents, newspaper and
magazine articles, miscellaneous documents, and photographs. The publications,
Flood Protection Update, Forks Focus, Greenway
Connections, and Constructive Communication, were created to
help inform residents about projects to help defend against flooding of the Red
River.
The government documents contain materials from city committees as well as
Federal organizations. The majority of this section contains agendas and
minutes from the Flood Protection Committee, a committee organized by the city
of Grand Forks. A levee alignment options study, Friends of the Greenway
publications, a report by the International Joint Commission, an American and
Canadian agency, and the International Flood Mitigation Initiative are also
included.
Arranged next are newspaper and magazine articles from various sources. Most
of the articles relate to the aftermath and impact of the 1997 Red River Valley
Flood. The miscellaneous documents includes a bibliography of stories, issues
on the Northern Pacific Railroad Bridge, maps for flood protection, and a 1997
Red River Valley Flood Checklist t-shirt.
Lastly included in this addition, are photographs taken by Alan Draves. The
majority of the photographs were taken in 1999-2000 and show the rebuilding of
Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. They are divided into folders by the location
of the photograph.
