The North Dakota Typographical Conference was established May 7, 1967 in Carrington, North Dakota. It was formed by North Dakota members of the International Typographical Union, who organized to improve working conditions for the state's printers. The Conference consisted of four "member unions" or "locals" in Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks and Minot. Each local sent five delegates to Conference meetings, which occurred twice a year - in the spring and fall. Officers were elected annually and could not serve more than two consecutive terms. The Conference held its last meeting in September of 1987. It disbanded shortly thereafter due to declining membership.
The North Dakota Typographical Conference records consist of meeting minutes, correspondence, financial reports, member lists, press releases and flyers. The collection spans the years 1967-1994 with the years 1980-1986 being the best documented.
