INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: This addition to the Dr. Richard Prank Papers was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Mary Margaret Frank, Grand Forks, North Dakota on July 30, 1996 (Acc. #97-2104).

ACCESS: Open for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Richard Frank Papers contains his obituary and biographical articles, which make up the first folder of the collection. The collection also contains his scientific writings, his Doctoral Dissertation and a rough draft of his work titled "pH Measurements with Acid-Base Indicators Sorbed on Paper on Ion-Exchange Resin." Frank was knowledgeable on various issues as is evident in his various writings on topics, such as food hunger, gasohol, energy, and foreign language education.

The Correspondence section of the collection contains Frank's letters to the mailbag of the Grand Forks Herald. Frank regularly wrote to voice his opinion and concerns on issues, such as visiting aboard. Anti-ballistic missile development, industry and pollution, recycling, the glorification of violence, metric conversion, religion and science. and nutrition. This section also contains Frank's correspondence with local, state and national government officials, including Mark Andrews, Quentin Burdick, Kent Conrad, Byron Dorgan. and Earl Pomeroy.

The Grand Forks section of the collection contains correspondence between Frank and the city on issues that he felt were important for the city to solve. He had an interest on a variety of topics such as open burn, water and portable advertising signs.

The last group of folders contain lectures given by Frank. Included is a lecture he gave to The Institute of Environmental Studies at Louisiana State University. '[his lecture is titled "Utilization of Solar Energy in Northern Latitudes" or E.T. Goes Solar." He gave other presentations to UND's chapter of Sigrna Xi, The North Dakota Junior Academy of Science and KFJM.
