INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: The Jennison Family Papers were deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Lathrop King Jennison, Atlanta, Georgia, on September 13, 1994 (Acc.#94-1966).

ACCESS: Open for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

HISTORICAL SKETCH

The Lathrop King Jennsion family line has been traced back to Robert Jennison of Colchester, Essex, England. In 1630, he and his family arrived in Watertown, Massachusetts. His descendants remained primarily in the New England area for approximately nine generations before moving westward in 1885 to Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Montana.

The Jennisons established flour milling businesses in Rugby, and Williston, North Dakota; Bainville, and Fairview, Montana; as well as, Portland, Oregon.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Jennison Family Papers consist of eight folders containing information on Jennison family history, correspondence between Lathrop King Jennison and others regarding information about the family, and information on the Society of the Mayflower. It also contains a Jennison family address book, information on Jennison war veterans, and Jennison obituaries and cemetery plots.
