ACQUISITION: The Vrooman Archive of Turtle Mountain Chippewa Folklife was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Nicholas Curchin Peterson Vrooman, Helena, Montana, on December 4, 1993 (Acc.#94-1955).

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Vrooman Archive of Turtle Mountain Chippewa Folklife Collection consists primarily of interviews conducted by Nicolas Churchin Perterson Vrooman from 1980-1992. The interviews were recorded on audio tape and then transcribed onto paper. Narratives, stories, music, song are among the subjects included. Each audio tape varies in length. Some tapes are recorded on both sides.

Vrooman sought funding from the North Dakota Humanities Council to produce a one hour television documentary on the Plains Ojibwa/Michif people with the information he had collected. This part of his project was to be entitled, "Tunes, Song, Dance and Stories from the Turtle Mountains."

Also included in the collection are 95 slides depicting Metis images. They can be found along with the slide inventory in folder #108.

98 audio tapes were separated and placed in the Audio Tape Collection.
