ACQUISITION: North Dakota China Painters Guild Records were deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Marcella Melsted, Edinberg, North Dakota, on May 20, 1993 (Acc.# 93-1876).

ACCESS: Open for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

HISTORICAL SKETCH

Organized in January 1966, the North Dakota China Painters Guild promotes the fine art of china painting in all aspects. Guild members do this through individual and group effort by exchanging knowledge, ideas, experiences, and painting methods, as well as inspiring confidence in members. Most members come from eastern North Dakota. Each year the Guild holds a china show and the proceeds from these annual events are used to finance lessons and/or seminars taught by professionals once a month.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The records of the North Dakota China Painters Guild consists of meeting minutes dating from 1966 to 1986, as well as the Guild's Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws. Also included are program booklets, guest book, organizational information on the china shows, grant information, and newspaper clippings dating from 1971 to 1991. The materials are arranged in their original order. Two photographs of thimbles painted for North Dakota General Federation of Women's Clubs were separated and placed in the Orin G. Libby Photograph Collection.
