INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: The Lloyd B. Stevens Photographic Collection was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Jean Heckman (daughter of Lloyd B. Stevens), Valparaiso, Indiana, on May 31, 1991 (Acc.# 91-1755).

ACCESS: Open for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collection.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Lloyd B. Stevens came to Cando, North Dakota in 1926 to join the law firm of Charles Houska. When Houska left Cando several years later, Stevens continued his practice until his retirement in 1971. Stevens was active in the Cando community. He was a charter member of the Cando Golf Club, was heavily involved in farming interests and served as the first attorney for Baker Electric in Cando.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Lloyd B. Stevens Photographic Collection consists of forty-two black and white photographs. These are undated, but appear to date from 1920-1925. Thirty-one of the photos depict various summer pow wows of the Devils Lake Sioux in Fort Totten, North Dakota.

The remaining ten photographs depict Lloyd B. Stevens and friends on a 1925 wolf hunting expedition. Stevens submitted one of these photographs to the magazine Hunter Trader Trapper, which published it on the front cover of its January 1926 issue.
