Lloyd Nygard Papers Opened:
The Elwyn B. Robinson Department of Special Collections is pleased to announce
that the Lloyd Nygard Papers have been processed, and are open for research.
Nygard was a farmer near Minot who was extremely concerned with flood control
issues in the Souris River Valley. He was a founding member of Citizens United
to Save the Valleys, which fought plans of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to
build the Burlington Dam. Following a long struggle, the Corps finally
abandoned the plan in 1991. The inventory for the Lloyd Nygard Papers is online
at: http://www.library.und.edu/Collections/og1422.html
Dagne Olsen Papers Opened:
The Department is extremely pleased to announce that the Dagne Olsen Papers
have been processed. The collection is now available for examination. A seven
term legislator in the North Dakota House of Representatives from Manvel, Olsen
was known as an advocate for the mentally retarded and developmentally
disabled. Her vocal opposition to abortion and active support for the Right to
Life movement were also two hallmarks of her career as a public servant. The
finding aid to the Dagne Olsen Papers is available at:
