ACQUISITION: This collection was donated as a gift to the University Archives by Gordon Kroeber (Assistant to the President for Facilities - Retired) June 1989.
ACCESS: Available for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.
Gordon Kroeber was born in 1924 in Napoleon, North Dakota. He went to high school in Napoleon and entered the University of North Dakota in the fall of 1942. In February of 1943 he enlisted in the service and had to put his education on hold. In 1945 he returned to the University of North Dakota to resume his schooling and received a degree in accounting in 1948, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 1949, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1950. In the summer of 1950 he was employed by the North Dakota Bridge and Highway Department. In 1951 he began full time work for the Adjutant General's Office of the North Dakota Air Guard (in which he held membership for seventeen years). On July 1st 1957 he began his employment at the University of North Dakota. During his years at the University, he was Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for fourteen years and the Assistant to the President for Facilities for eighteen years. In his position as Assistant to the President for Facilities and representing the President, he coordinated the construction and design of University buildings with contractors, architects, and University personnel. Gordon Kroeber retired from the University of North Dakota on June 30, 1989.
The Assistant to the President for Facilities Archive contains materials concerning the construction of buildings on the University of North Dakota campus, appraisals of the value of University buildings and equipment, general information regarding the Columbia Road Overpass project in the 1970's, and various oversized photographs of the University of North Dakota. Also included are a variety of maps and plans of the University.
