The main purpose of this organization was to promote religion and religious life at the University of North Dakota. The religious council was made up of one representative from each religious group on campus along with the YMCA and YWCA. The group also encouraged all campus religions and their programs. A main outreach event of the organization was Religious Emphasis Week which was a yearly event from at least 1947-1966.
The University Religious Council Records contain documents that pertain to the organization and administration of the Religious Council. Included are minutes of council meetings, the constitution, directories, proposals to the council, and a history. This information includes financial reports, bills, receipts, and budget requests to the Student Activities Committee (SAC).
