HISTORICAL SKETCH

Cooperative Education is a program of Career Services. Cooperative Education allows students to get real work experience in the course of their college career. Cooperative Education was first funded at the University of North Dakota in 1985 by President Clifford. In 1987, the University Senate voted to treat Cooperative Education students, who were working forty or more hours a week, as full time students. From 1987 to 1996, Cooperative Education was partially funded by a grant from the United State Department of Education. As of 2003-04, there were a total of 561 students enrolled in Cooperative Education. Forty-eight different academic programs at the University of North Dakota currently offer Cooperative Education as a credit option to their students.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The collection includes annual reports from 1988 to 1994 as well as advisory board reports from 1988 to 1997. This collection also contains the applications, correspondence and reports related to the United States Department of Education grant which helped to fund this department from 1987 to 1996.
