This addition to the Office of General Council Records dates from 1973 to 1993 and contains correspondence between Boyd Wright and Byron Dorgan, Governor's Day Committee records from 1973 to 1984, Faculty Rights and Handbooks from 1979 to 1984, and reports and research information pertaining to university athletics.
The correspondence between Boyd Wright, a University of North Dakota law professor, and United States Representative Byron Dorgan is from 1981. Representative Dorgan was seeking advice on upcoming legislation concerning bankruptcy laws.
The Governor's Day Committee was an assembly of students and faculty that combined efforts to not only welcome the governor to the University, but they also discussed proposals and initiatives to present to the governor upon his arrival.
The UND Faculty Handbook dates from 1979 to 1984. The '79, '80, '83, and '84 editions are all revisions made to previous handbooks. The '81 - '82 handbook is a full copy of the revised 1980 edition.
Faculty Rights is a portion of the UND Faculty Handbook pertaining to job performance and tenure eligibility. This material ranges from 1979 to 1981 and is divided into four folders labeled minutes, correspondence, documents, and cases. There are a couple of documented cases of professors losing their positions due to their poor job performance.
The remainder of the collection pertains to the Athletic Gender Equity Study Committee. In 1992 President Baker asked a committee to convene to "constructively and accurately identify and describe the status of gender equity in the area of athletics as it presently exists on the UND campus." The report of the Athletic Gender Equity Study Committee organized their findings and presented them to Baker in 1993. The report is organized into five folders, beginning with the table of contents and ending with appendices which include questionnaires given to athletes and their coaches.
Revenue-Producing Athletics: One Hundred Years of Exploitation and Mis-Education (1985), Study of Intercollegiate Athletics (1988), and Student Athletes: Information on Their Academic Performance (1989) are three published studies used by the Athletic Gender Equity Study Committee to construct findings for their study.
