SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

Most important in the addition is a book that contains the articles of incorporation, by-laws, and board minutes of the Finch-Smith Company, established in Crookston, MN (1897). Finch-Smith was the forerunner of Finch-Winslow-Carlisle Company. H.B. Finch as well as Fred and Willis Nash were Finch-Smith officers. Board minutes reveal that Finch-Smith Company was changed to Finch-Winslow-Carlisle Company on 1 MAR 1907. The book also contains a record of annual and special shareholder meetings (1897-1921). Because of the book's size and fragile condition, it was not separated from the collection. Proxies and the Finch-Smith Company articles of incorporation, however, that had been interleaved in the book were removed and placed in separate folders.

The addition also includes a NFCO statement of assets and liabilities (9 MAR 1962); NFCO testimonial resolutions pertaining published upon the deaths of Harold B. Finch (MAY 1973) and Robert L. Nash (NOV 1977); Nash Company stationary letterhead samples from when it was located at 1100 Foshay Tower, Minneapolis 55402; and newspaper articles and full-page advertisements pertaining to the JUL 1971 opening of a Jack & Jill store in Holdrege, Nebraska, as well as an article about the closing of a NFCO d¥stribution warehouse in Norfolk, Nebraska (MAY 1975).

Also included here is a baseball uniform from Nash, ND. This wool uniform dates to the 1930's and was given to John Nash by Bernice Flanagan of Edinberg, ND. The uniform was among many purchased from the Grand Forks Chiefs in about 1950 by Hank Monson, who coached the Nash "Legion" team. According to Hank's wife, Lila, he bought this and other uniforms from a Northern League team that had either purchased new uniforms or had suspended play. The Nash ceased play in the late 1950's. Before Monson moved to Grafton in the early 1960's, he gave all the team uniforms to Flanagan, because she had started a pee-wee baseball team and was actively involved in promoting the sport in Nash.
