INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: This addition to the Nash Finch Company Records was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Bill Roberts, 7600 France Avenue, Minneapolis, MN, representative of the Nash Finch Company, in August 1993.(Acc.#94-1935).

ACCESS: Available for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

This addition to the Nash Finch Company Records consists primarily of financial records related to the Nash Finch Company, the Nash Shareholders Company and their affiliates. Financial documents include 234 volumes of cash books, check registers, financial statements, journals, and summary/routine journals, among others. Rather than creating a traditional inventory, detailed descriptions of the volumes were entered into a database. From the database three indexes were generated: Date, Creating Agency, and Document Type. Volumes 232 and 233 were disbound, placed in folders and boxed. Box 6 contains materials separated from Volumes 11, 197, 198, 230, 231 and 234.

Researchers should begin by locating a desired volume using the indexes. Noting the volume number, one can then locate a detailed description of its contents in the comprehensive database. Before using these financial records, it is strongly suggested that researchers possess basic knowledge of the Nash Finch Company and its many affiliates. Materials located in boxes 1-6 may provide some background information. In addition, the following books are available in the Department of Special Collections:

Boxcar of Peaches: The Nash Bros. & Nash Finch Company: The First Fifty Years
Call number HD9321 .9 .N37 G56 1990.

100 Years, 1885-1985, Nash Finch Company
Call Number HD9321 .9 .N37 O54 1984
