SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This addition to the 164th Infantry Association Records consists of a scrapbook documenting the World War II activities of Robert Kjonaas of Leeds, North Dakota. Kjonaas was a member of Company D, 164th Infantry. Kjonaas was born on June 22, 1922 in Kenmare, North Dakota. He graduated from Leeds High School in 1940, and entered the United States Army as part of the 164th Infantry on February 10, 1941. Kjonaas was awarded the Bronze Service Star and a good conduct medal during the war. He separated from the army on August 26, 1945. He re-entered the army in 1947, serving until 1963. Robert Kjonaas died May 28, 1997.

The scrapbook contains photographs, newspaper clippings, documents and correspondence. There are several pages of photographs which appear to date before the war, although the vast majority of the scrapbook is concerned with the war. Most of the clippings document the history of North Dakota in World War II, although special emphasis is given to Robert Kjonaas, the 164th Infantry and soldiers from Leeds. The scrapbook concludes with the undated clippings regarding the wedding of Robert Kjonaas and Donna Frost.

Also included in the addition are photocopies of the service record for Robert Kjonaas, as well as Theodore Frost. Frost was born June 4, 1926 in Velva, North Dakota. He entered the United States Army on September 20, 1944. Frost served as a member of the 3785th Quartermaster Truck Company in the African, Middle Eastern and European Theaters. He was awarded a Bronze Star, as well as a Good Conduct Medal. He separated from the army on July 10, 1946, although he re-enlisted from 1951-1952. Theodore Frost died on February 2, 1997.

All materials were donated by Donna Kjonaas, the wife of Robert Kjonaas, and sister of Theodore Frost.
