INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: This addition to the Carleton Elliott Simensen Military Heritage Collection, 164th Infantry Association Records was deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection by Walter Ensminger, Grants Pass, Oregon on April 16, 1997 (Acc. #97-2131).

ACCESS: Open for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This addition to the 164th Infantry Association dates from 1942-1943 and consists of five folders. The first folder contains a collection of passes used by soldiers. The passes would be used for events such as leaving their post to perform a special duty. The second folder contains a poem entitled "Green Hell." It was written by an unknown soldier and tells of experiences on Guadalcanal. The third folder contains several newspaper articles. It is unknown which publication most of these articles come from, the only known one is from a 1943 issue of Infantry Journal. The fourth folder contains an agreement of a wager placed between two of the soldiers on when the war would end, a memo to the soldiers of the 164th, a flyer advertising a memorial service on March 9, 1943 at the Guadalcanal Military Cemetery, and a photocopy of pictures from Guadalcanal.

SEPARATIONS RECORD

One newspaper article entitled "Kyne Tribute to 1st N.D. Infantry Recalled," was separated in placed in Oversize Folder 11, and 12 photos were placed in the Orin G. Libby Photograph Collection.
